Hard Drive Destruction

Jerry and the Hard Drive

While I've had great joy destroying hard drives in the past, it is quite time consuming. In that vein, I should note the existence of EDR's Hard Disk Crusher. Only $11,500 + shipping to destroy 60 hard drives an hour! And there's even a hand pump, in case you're trying to destroy the data before the Bad Guys Come and the power is out...

It worries me that I likely would have made somebody buy this at my own job. I don't know who yet, but it would have happened.

Serendipitously, data was recovered off a Columbia hard drive. Burned up during reëntry, crashed on the ground, but they found data anyway. Yowza.

I'm in for some system that drops hard drives from orbit, even if, sadly, it's not the only way to be sure.
